HeartMath®

Regulate your nervous system. Perform at your best.

You already know stress is hurting you. You can feel it in the decisions you second-guess, the sleep you can’t get, and the anxiety that shows up at the worst moments. What you may not know is that the source of that stress isn’t your mind. It’s your nervous system. And your heart is running more of it than you think.

HeartMath® is a science-backed system developed over 30 years by the HeartMath Institute and used by Fortune 500 companies, elite athletes, military units, and hospitals worldwide that teaches you to regulate your physiology through the heart. The result is a measurable shift in stress hormones, brain function, emotional balance, and performance. Often in the first session.

Traci Dobrev is a HeartMath® Certified Practitioner, a credential that requires a health professional background and demonstrated clinical proficiency. This isn’t an app or a self-help program. It’s a clinical-grade skill set, taught by someone who knows how to apply it to what you’re actually going through.

The science behind HeartMath

The Science Behind HeartMath®

Your heart isn’t just a pump. It contains roughly 40,000 sensory neurons, which is why neuroscientists call it the “heart brain.” More nerve fibers run from the heart up to the brain than from the brain down to the heart. The heart also generates the body’s most powerful electromagnetic field, and research has confirmed that its rhythm pattern directly shapes how your brain processes emotions, makes decisions, and accesses memory.

The key concept is heart coherence, a specific, measurable state where your heart rhythm becomes smooth and ordered, and your nervous system shifts from stress response into calm, alert functioning. Coherence is not relaxation. You’re not zoning out. You’re switching from a dysregulated state into one where you can actually access your best thinking, your clearest decisions, and your deepest resilience.

When your heart is incoherent, which is most of the time when you’re stressed, anxious, or emotionally reactive, it sends chaotic signals to your brain. That’s why you can’t think clearly under pressure. It’s not a character flaw. It’s physiology. And physiology can be trained.

What a Session Looks Like

Sessions with Traci are not talk therapy. They’re hands-on, body-informed coaching with real-time biofeedback technology.

You’ll be connected to a small, painless sensor that reads your heart rhythm and displays it on screen. You’ll see exactly what your nervous system is doing as the jagged, erratic pattern of a stressed heart, and then, as Traci guides you through the techniques, you’ll watch that pattern transform into a smooth, flowing wave in real time. What you’re seeing is your own physiology shift is a different experience than being told to “just breathe.” It makes the invisible visible, and it makes the skill learnable.

From there, Traci teaches you a progressive toolkit of HeartMath® techniques you can use anywhere, such as before a hard conversation, in the middle of a meeting, or at 2 AM when your mind won’t stop:

1

Quick Coherence

A 60-second technique that shifts your heart rhythm using focused breathing and a genuine positive feeling. It’s the go-to tool for in-the-moment stress, anger, or anxiety.

2

Inner Ease

An “active calm” technique for navigating high-pressure situations without reactivity. Best used before you enter the storm, not during.

3

Freeze-Frame

A five-step process that combines coherence with intuitive problem-solving. Use this when you need both stress relief and a decision made.

4

Heart Lock-In

A deeper, 5–15 minute practice that builds your coherence baseline over time. This is how lasting change gets made at the physiological level. Most clients practice 3–5 minutes a day between sessions.

FAQ

Is HeartMath® therapy?

HeartMath® is a structured skill-building system, not therapy in the traditional sense — there’s no analysis of your past or extended talk sessions. That said, Traci is a Nationally Certified Counselor and brings a clinical lens to everything she does. If deeper therapeutic work is appropriate alongside HeartMath®, she’ll integrate it. Many clients find HeartMath® complements and accelerates their existing therapeutic work because it addresses what talk therapy often can’t reach: the stored stress patterns in the body.

How quickly will I notice results?

Most people notice a shift in their first session simply because watching your own heart rhythm change in real time, and learning you can control it, is an immediate and often powerful experience. Meaningful changes in stress levels, sleep, emotional reactivity, and focus are typically reported within a few weeks of consistent practice. Deeper physiological changes, such as in cortisol, HRV baselines, and immune function, show up in research within four to eight weeks.

Do I need to buy equipment?

Traci uses professional-grade biofeedback equipment during sessions. For home practice, she may recommend the Inner Balance sensor (a small, affordable device that connects to your phone), but this isn’t required to begin. Many clients make significant progress with the techniques alone before adding a personal device.

I’ve tried meditation and breathing exercises before and they didn’t stick. How is this different?

HeartMath® is biofeedback-based, which means you get real-time data on whether what you’re doing is actually working. Most breathing and mindfulness practices require you to trust the process without feedback. With HeartMath®, you can see on screen whether your technique is generating coherence, and that feedback is what accelerates learning and makes the habit stick. You’re not practicing blind.

Is this only for people with serious stress or trauma?

Not at all. HeartMath® is used by elite athletes and executives who are already performing at a high level and want to perform at a higher one, by students who want an edge on test anxiety, by people in healthy relationships who want to communicate without reactivity, and by anyone who wants more consistent access to their best self. You don’t have to be in crisis for your nervous system to benefit from training.
