Simplicity

I’ve been thinking about what to write in my blogs this year and the theme that keeps coming up is simplicity.

At times, my life like everyone else’s can get consumed with projects and things on the “to do” list. When that happens, it’s easy to lose sight of what is truly important…slowing down, appreciating the moment, and connecting with others and the world around me. When I do slow down and simplify, I have more patience and energy for all the projects and “to dos”.

With that in mind, I’m changing the format of my blogs. They will be shorter and contain a simple action you can take to help improve perspective and bring simplicity to your life.

First theme, Go Outside!

I have always been a person who connects deeply in nature. As I child, I would point out the window and say to my mom, “Outside, outside, outside”.  I love being in nature! Something about being outside grounds me…it brings me back home to myself and refuels me to take on the next set of daily tasks or projects.

If you don’t have the luxury of living in a warm climate where you can go outside year-round like me, put on some sounds from nature, look at pictures of outdoor scenes, visit a museum, spend 10 minutes staring at a fish tank…on your computer screen if you don’t have a real fish tank!

These are simple actions that bring big rewards for your brain. When you do it consistently you will start to notice your breathing slows down, your brain becomes clearer, and your ability to focus on one thing verses trying to multi-task, improves. The ability to focus helps you handle challenges of daily life with less stress and anxiety.

Make good choices for your brain daily, and you will see a difference.

Dedicated to raising your consciousness!
